Recognition, Gratitude, and the Pursuit of Excellence

On the evening of January 16th, 2025, I had the privilege of attending the Boots Opticians Best of the Best awards ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester. It was an event that brought together the finest professionals from across the country—individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and expertise to delivering the highest standards of care. Over 900 people had been nominated across various categories, and amongst the many thousands of clinicians working within Boots Opticians, I was incredibly humbled to be named Clinician of the Year.

When my name was announced, I was momentarily overwhelmed. It was a surreal feeling—one of immense pride, but also deep gratitude. To be recognised in this way, among so many talented and dedicated peers, was an honour beyond words. As I walked up to receive the award, I found myself reflecting on the journey that had led me to that moment: the long hours, the countless patient interactions, the continuous learning, and the commitment to always striving for better.

But this award was not just a personal achievement; it was a testament to the value of consistency, dedication, and the pursuit of excellence. Every day, in clinics across the country, clinicians work tirelessly to improve the vision and well-being of their patients. To be singled out among such an exceptional group of professionals was both humbling and inspiring.

Recognition like this serves as a reminder of why we do what we do. It reinforces the belief that small, daily efforts—delivering great patient care, mentoring colleagues, embracing innovation—accumulate over time into something truly meaningful. I left the ceremony that night feeling both proud and motivated, more determined than ever to continue growing and delivering the highest standards of care.

To those who were nominated, to my colleagues, and to everyone who is committed to this profession: this award is a reflection of all of us. And to the many clinicians working within Boots Opticians, I am incredibly proud to be among you.
